     This memorial website was created to remember Franklin D.R. Johnson who was born on July 9, 1937 and passed away on April 2, 2009. he will live forever in our memories and hearts.

     Franklin Delano Roosevelt Johnson, 71, of Peoria, passed away at 5:16 p.m. on Thursday, April 2, 2009, at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria.

     Franklin was born in Bushnell on July 9, 1937, a son of Earl P. and Cola Christine (Chick) Johnson. They preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by eight brothers and two sisters.

     He is survived by his brother, and caregiver for the last ten years, Dennis E. (Melba) Johnson, of Peoria; sisters, Sharon (Robert) Walters of Bettendorf, IA, Earline Burke of Colona, Betty Beffum of Canton and Judith (Don) Stahl of Mossville; and several nieces and nephews.

     Franklin graduated from the Bushnell/Prairie City High School, where he played football. He was raised in the Bushnell Assembly of God Church and joined the U.S. Army at the age of eighteen. He was a disabled Korean War Veteran.

     Franklin loved spending time outdoors, especially at parks; sitting by the pool at Dennis and Melba's home; spending time with his nieces and nephews; spending time with his family, especially during the holidays; taking rides in his car; watching baseball and old movies on AMC; and going out to dinner, especially to Hometown Buffet and McDonald's.

     He was especially fond of "Lil' Boy", his nine year old niece, Brionna. He will be remembered for his smile - that he shared with everyone - and for being sweet, kind, forgiving and gentle.

     A graveside service and interment will be at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, April 8, 2009, at Prairie City Cemetery, with Pastor Earl Kinnee officiating. The U.S. Army will provide Military Honors. The family will have a private visitation on Tuesday. Memorial contributions may be made in Franklin’s memory to the Peoria County Veteran’s Assistance Commission.

     Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Clary Funeral Home in Peoria.

Dennis and Melba...

 

I was sorry to read Frank's obituary in the Journal Star.  Having followed Frank's life for several years, I thought it was improtant to thank the both of you for making his life so comfortable.  His final years with you and your family were probably the best.  You were good family to him.
